First Year Favorites

It's amazing what all happens in just one year. These last 365 days with our precious little girl seem to be flying by so fast. When people would tell me "enjoy her while she is little, it'll be over before you know it", I would always nod my head and shrug it off. They were right...every last one of them! I can't imagine our lives without her. She is just amazing in every way. Aria is at the stage where everyday is a new learning experience and she just jabbers away, very loudly I might add. We love her so much! We are so blessed!

Birthday Gifting

When it came to searching for the perfect first birthday gift for Aria we were stumped. What do you get a one year old that isn't a toy? She already has a zillion toys and sadly, we haven't bought any of them. Yes, all have come as gifts from friends and family from her baby shower and Christmas.

Nate & I decided that we would get her a Pottery Barn 'Anywhere Chair'. Aria is now climbing up onto our couch and we rather that she have her own chair, the safer route, than the possibility of hurting herself climbing. After finding the chair that we wanted, I look across the screen and see "No Longer Available". Boo! I began looking through the other colors/patterns and made a new selection. After finding my second choice, I went to checkout and it said "your order will not be shipped until September". Say what!? No thanks! Needless to say we had to scratch that idea. Maybe we should just order it now so it will be in by Christmas time. Sshhhh, don't tell her! ;) I love the pale blue color of the one below. It reminds me of 'Alice' and considering Aria's bedroom is "Alice In Wonderland" themed, it would work perfectly; and not to mention it already has Jane embroidered on this moch-up. (Jane is Aria's middle name)

We ended up going this route for Aria's gifts:

Minnie & Friends Patio Chair Since it is well into summertime and we want to soak up some sun with our little munchkin, we thought a cute little patio chair would be perfect.

Minnie & Friends 9 oz. Sippy Cups Sippy cups right now are a must have. Due to her turning one, apparently you are not allowed to use a bottle...like...never ever again! :)

Disney Movies We enjoy watching movies at our house and although we have quite a few, we decided it couldn't hurt to have more. Disney movies are awesome! Period! Nate and I can't help but sing along and quote the entire movie when we watch them with her. I can't tell you how many times we have watched "Tangled" lately. It's just so darn cute!

Carters Cupcake Pajamas I love Carters brand clothes! It seems they always have good deals and if I don't buy off their website, we usually can find what we're looking for at our local JC Penny or Kohl's department store. They are good quality clothes and their jammies are very comfy fabric. This particular pair comes with a top and two pairs of bottoms. Bonus!

I'll leave you with this gem from when I went home at lunch today...

Sick Days | Birthday Pics | etc.

Last Thursday, our little Aria got sick for the first time. With a fever of over 100*, she was feeling pretty miserable. She spent up until Sunday evening still feeling crummy and extremely whinny!  Nate took her to the doctor on Friday morning only to find out it was "just a virus" and to let it run its course. Talk about feeling helpless! There was not much we could do besides snuggle with her, play some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and rotate between her Children's Motrin & Ibuprofen.

We had scheduled to have some birthday/'smash the cake' pictures taken on Saturday morning. Aria woke up in a fairly decent mood, so we thought she was feeling better. I had wanted to get a photo of Aria with her "security objects". I thought it would be cute to look back on and for her to have a beautiful picture of her with all the things she obsessed over when she was "little". We packed up her pink bear from her 'Granny', her pink mini Cabbage Patch doll from 'Uncle Bruce', her grey rabbit from The Eaton's and..... her pink cat was nowhere to be found! DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN! The pink cat is one that was brought to her while we were still in the hospital by our friend Lorissa and her son, Lane. It's one that she carries everywhere and sucks on its face. Disgusting I know, but, it sure beats a pacifier! We were running out of time and the search for the cat just had to wait. The cat wouldn't make it into the photo, not life altering but, just bummed we didn't have it. We loaded up and headed out to Lydia's studio out in the country. About halfway there, Nate asks, "You got the cake, didn't you?" ....sigh.... "no".  So he speeds back to the house, weaving through traffic like it's St. Louis. (he's a city kid at heart) We finally make it to Lydia's...with the cake & not the cat. Aria starts to whine excessively. Wonderful! I take her into the studio and to my realization, she's had diarrhea. Cool! I got her changed, while Lydia and Nate are deciding what backdrop to use, the lighting, etc. and try putting on her first outfit. Of course, the arm holes are small. Good choice for not having her try on the outfit before we got there. Finally got it on her, while she's kicking and screaming. Lydia gets her all situated on the stool with all her animals except the cat, and Aria has a meltdown. My blood pressure starts to sky rocket. Lydia got some shots while Aria was on a break from the meltdown. No smiling, but that sober face is one we love. (Notice the missing eye on the rabbit, the missing nose on the bear and the tail of the cabbage patch doll = pacifier/chew toy)

I changed her into her "it's my birthday" outfit while they fixed the lighting details and backdrop. Another meltdown ensues. Pull yourself together kid, we're almost done. I promise. We sat her down in a cute pink chair and she just wales.

Next we try to sit her on the floor with the cake in front of her. She started to calm down and pick little spots of the icing off of the cake. We had high hopes that we would dig in and get super messy, but not the case. When you take a kid that doesn't feel well to get pictures taken, they don't want any part of it. #ParentingFail

After Lydia took the last picture, she took her to the bathroom and cleaned her all up and changed her. What a gal! :) She did such a good job and was so calm during the whole session. I would've pulled my hair out and made the client leave if it were me. Ha! Props to Candids By Lydia for being such a great photographer and keeping your cool while I wanted to have a mommy meltdown.

Monday evening, our family went down to my parent's house to have a Father's Day dinner since I had to work on Sunday. We enjoyed some good food, hanging out and watching old home movies of my sister that I had transferred onto DVDs for my dad. Where are the home movies of me you ask. Good question! I'm still searching for any....any. Ha! #NotAsCoolAsMySister

When we got back to our house, it was close to bedtime. Aria enjoyed playing with her new found loves. Her dolls. The darker and dirtier one was my first doll. Her name is Ash-A-Lee. (You have to say it in a little kid voice, in syllable form. It's just not the same if you say it like a normal person) The plastic fingers have been chewed on and the amounts of stains on it are insane. But, it was my first doll. My love. At first, I was questioning if I should let her play with it. (Sentimental much?!) I know how much I loved it, so I figured she should get to share in my love for her too. While in college, I was going through an antique store with my mom and stumbled upon the same doll. A year newer than mine (1987 edition) and in much better condition. Neither of the dolls have the outfit it came with. I vaguely remember it coming in a bunny costume. I don't remember it staying on for long though. Wishing I still had it. Considering how rugged the doll looks now, I am sure the outfit had its share of dirt and spit on it and eventually got thrown out.

Aria would hold the two dolls and carry them around the living room, then bring them over to me, have me hold them for a second then want them back to start the cycle again. We did this for a solid 15 minutes before she realized she had a book out. She began to read it continually flip through the pages until she started getting tired. Diaper change, jammies, milk, she's out!

Outside Playtime

We love the outdoors and it has finally reached some amazing weather around here. Last week our family traveled down to visit the church camp that my husband had attended majority of his life. This was his first year since about third grade that he was not involved in some way, whether it being a camper, "dorm dad" or dean. We made a mid-week visit and enjoyed the atmosphere. Aria loved that they had a playground. She enjoys swinging so much and we enjoy hearing her giggle from her excitement.

This past weekend Aria and I spent some time out at a family member's lake.
She loved being outside!

...looks like she has no hair. #Instragram fail

~ Beautiful day to go fishing ~

My beautiful niece, Genevieve and I enjoyed some fishing. Neither of us caught anything, well besides a big twig and catching my hook on a tree that was under the water.
Always happens to me!

Back To Blogging

I had started a blog almost a year ago to chronicle the life of our daughter, Aria. After a few months,  I thought it might be pointless to keep. The longer I thought about it, the more I realized that I would one day enjoy looking at certain parts in our little family's life and begin to "wonder what was going on then". So, here I am beginning again about my life with Loker.

Last night I sat with Aria in the living room while Nate was off at one of his senior photo sessions. As much as I hate when he's gone, it gives Aria and I some good mama and daughter bonding time. I sat on the floor watching her play with her toys, then looking down at my phone to see the latest Instagram photos and here she comes; standing next to me, arm around my neck and snacking on her Cheerios as she looks to see what's on my phone. Those little moments just make me smile.

Aria is very much a goofy girl. She loves eating Cheerios off the floor by bending over and picking them up with her mouth, -Mom of the Year Award Winner-she runs as fast as she can into the couch and she is now able to do a front roll (taught by the bending for Cheerios I'm guessing); This girl just amazes me. She began walking at seven and a half months and although it was shocking to a lot of people, it wasn't for us. She is a very determined child. I think its more so the stubbornness from Nate and the impatient-ness (is that a word?) from me that makes her that way.

We are now entering her birth month and I can not believe that time has flown by so quickly. I'll save my sob story of how great it was to become a mom but, all I know is, I'm so thankful that this is the life God let me live.

(When Daddy comes home, Aria gets really excited)
